Shakira Talks about She Wold to USA Today

Check out what Shakira has to say about her new album “She Wolf”.

“I think I felt trapped in a golden cage for many years,” says Shakira, calling from Paris, where she’s making final tweaks to her new album, She Wolf. “The culture, the education, the upbringing, what society expects from you. … Over the past year, I’ve been asking myself the question, ‘What does Shakira really want? What are her desires and how do I fulfill them?’ ”

Look no further than She Wolf, the first single from the album. The music video premieres Thursday on MTV (8 p.m. ET/PT), and sneak peeks show the petite Colombian singer letting loose in a golden cage.

“It was improvisation. I went crazy,” she says. “They said ‘Action!’ and I just started hanging from the bars. I felt so inspired, maybe because I felt like I was a living metaphor trapped inside the cage.”

The video’s concept — and dance moves, of course — were created by Shakira. Not one to mess around, the 32-year-old singer made sure to include a couple of live wolves. “They were hanging out on the set and people were freaked out.”
